Big Ben is actually the name of the bell inside the clockwork. The tower is actually called Elisabeth Tower. Big Ben is the biggest of the 5 bells that make up the total clockwork of Elisabeth Tower. The clock was made in 1856 and was first used in 1859. Next to Big Ben you can find the Westminster Palace which is the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Big Ben tolls every hour and the bells famously ring in the tone E.
