Lilla Torg
Lilla Torg is a square in the Old Town in central Malmö. It is located right next to Stortorget. Lilla Torg was built in the 1590s after extensive earthworks. Here people crowded on the west side of the square around the meat counters while the bakers on the south side of the square lured them with freshly baked bread. Today, the square is characterized by its many restaurants and historic buildings.

The Malmö Castle is the Nordic region’s oldest preserved Renaissance castle. Built by Erik of Pomerania’s castle in 1434, its remains are within a newer castle that was completed in the middle of the 16th century. At the Malmö Castle, the Danish kings lived during their visits to Malmö. When Skåne became a part of Sweden in 1658, the fortifications were further strengthened, but in the 18th century the fortress lost its significance and was used in 1828 – 1909 as a prison. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the castle has been used as a museum.
